What Do I Do if My Basement Floods?
11/2/2016 (Permalink)
Tuscaloosa and the entire state of Alabama has suffered a severe drought this last month and half. While heavy rainfall is a very common cause for flooding basements, there are several other causes of basement flooding. Some of these major causes are:
- A blocked or failed sewer lateral pipe
- Heavy rain causes surface water to pool around your home
- Storm sewer backup
- Sanitary sewer backup
- Foundation drainage failure
- Water supply-line break or hot-water tank failure
Because basements are the lowest part of a home and generally built underground, the basement is prone to suffering from flooding and high moisture levels. High moisture levels are worrisome as well due to the risk of microbial growth.
