Red Cross and Home Fire Campaign

Smoke alarms. Most of us forget we have them in our homes until the battery gets low or we burn a brownie in a mug recipe we saw on Pinterest.
According to statistics provided by Red Cross, seven people die every day from home fires. Many people do not even realize their homes do not have smoke alarms installed, or worse they do not have enough installed to reach critical points in the home. We recently had a very large home fire hit the new in Tuscaloosa Alabama. This fire started downstairs and the homeowners had smoke alarms, but they could not hear them upstairs. None were installed upstairs to notify them. Thankfully, the homeowners were able to escape through the second floor windows, but this is not always the semi-happy ending.
SERVPRO of Tuscaloosa has partnered with our local Red Cross chapter and is a part of their Disaster Recovery and Home Fire Campaign Crew. We host a golf tournament every October to raise money for the campaign and on March 25th 2017 we are sending volunteers to help install smoke detectors FREE into Tuscaloosa area homes. Check out our community page to see pictures and learn more about the Fire Campaign after the 25th!
